Effect of Residual Current Circuit Breakers on Human Health
Even if there is a residual current circuit breakers in your electrical installation, it should be checked whether the breaker is working and it should be maintained regularly to ensure that your life and property safety is fully protected.
The simplest test method for the user is to make it open by pressing the “TEST” button on the residual current circuit breakers.
It is ideal to test your residual current circuit breakers with a test button once a month. With this test process, you can ensure that the residual current circuit breaker is least affected by external influences.
According to the standard, the residual current circuit breakers are required to open at a current value between 50% and 100% of the residual current rating value. That is, a 30mA life protection breaker will open the circuit at a resiudal current value between 15-30mA. The duty of residual current circuit breakers with residual current value of 30 mA is to protect human health. When the current flowing through the human body reaches a certain value, it can cause serious harm or kill people. The curve in Table-1 below and Table-2 explains this situation.
Effect of residual current circuit breakers on human health
mA = current sensation limit, hand tickling
1-5 mA = numb feeling in hands, movement of the hand and arm becomes difficult
15-25 mA = It is not possible to release the held object spontaneously. The work of the heart is not affected
25-80 mA = The tolerable current intensity, blood pressure rises, the heart begins to work irregularly, breathing becomes difficult, reversible cardiac arrest occurs, generally consciousness is present, some people faint after 50 mA.
80-100 mA= Depending on the duration of the current, fibrillation starts in the heart and consciousness disappears. (There is no fibrillation in electric shocks shorter than 0.3 s.)
3-8A = Blood pressure rises, the heart stops, the lungs swell, consciousness disappears.
